Macaw Heaven

After the tour we got peanuts and went in the big cage. It's huge, big enough for the birdies to actually stretch their wings and fly, which they did a lot while we were in there. It was terrific to see them in such a large protected environment. They are obviously well loved, and since they are also very social creatures, welcomed us and had some fun with us as well. Until we had a parrot for a year I had no idea they had such a sense of humor as well as awareness of their own power (which is formidable). They know how to intimidate and then laugh at your reaction... and try to make friends and rub their beak on your cheek. Macaws are amazing. You are seeing two blue and gold macaws in this picture as well as a scarlet macaw. There are some that mix with military macaws as well. Some really beautiful birds. Uncle Sandy tries to keep their environment colorful like in the wild too.
